Island Pampering at the Upperhouse Spa - The District Boracay

A trip to the beach is always a relaxing undertaking, and whether you love water activities like diving, snorkeling, or surfing, or you simply like to enjoy the views and listen to the waves, you always look forward to unwinding at the end of the day. Take the relaxation further and treat yourself to a massage—when done expertly, it is guaranteed to soothe your weary muscles and reset your mind. If you find yourself in Boracay island and longing for an indulgent spa treatment, you might want to check out the Upperhouse Spa at The District Boracay.

Situated on the rear wing of the hotel, Upperhouse Spa is home to two spa suites furnished with massage beds, oversized couches, and private bathrooms—designed to give guests a relaxing and indulgent time away from all the island buzz. The spa offers an array of treatments tailored for different needs and preferences: from massage therapies, facials, foot treatments, and body and facial scrubs. If you’re looking for an invigorating massage, I highly recommend the Upperhouse Signature Massage (PhP2,700 for 90 minutes), which is a combination of Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi and Thai stretching.

Before I started the treatment, I was offered some delicious ginger tea in the reception area, where I also got to choose my preferred massage oil. As always, I opted for the lavender because this scent really calms me and makes me want to just drift off to light sleep while I am being pampered. After I finished my tea, a therapist approached me and led me into the treatment room, where calming aromas greeted me.

The therapist asked me to change into a bathrobe before giving me a foot wash. As she worked on my tired feet, I got even more excited for the actual massage. Shortly after, she led me to the bed, asked me how much pressure I liked, and then started the treatment.

Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi uses flowy strokes that attack many parts of the body at once. I loved how the therapist worked her hands on my body using long strokes—from my shoulders to my legs—and using her palms, fingers, knuckles, and even elbows too! This is one of my favorite massage techniques.

I’m not a huge fan of Thai stretching, but the therapist was really gentle so I got to enjoy it this time. However, my favorite part really is when therapists massage my scalp and pull at my hair (am I weird?)—I find it SO RELAXING that I almost always fall asleep when they do this! Unfortunately this is always at the end of treatments so by the time they start doing this, I always know that I have only a few more minutes of heaven left.

After the massage, I got up feeling revived and fresh. It always happens with awesome therapists—I feel like my brain is reset and all my energy is renewed! Thanks to Upperhouse Spa at The District for this pampering session in Boracay!
