I have some great news for all the Cebu food aficionados like myself: Casa Verde has finally opened a branch in Manila! On September 27, Casa Verde announced through their Facebook page that they are invading Manila soon:

Imagine
how thrilled I was when I saw this!
Casa Verde
opened its first Manila branch last September 30, at the 2nd Level
of Ayala UP Town Center, Katipunan in Quezon City. Now I have a reason to go
back and hangout on the area near my beloved Alma Mater!
If you
have been following my blog, you would have gathered that I adore Cebu and its smorgasbord
of restaurants. Therefore, hearing about Casa Verde’s awesome move to bring
this delight to Manila was like a wish being granted. I hope other Cebu
restaurants follow suit. One down, a hundred more to go!
I’m just
wondering if Casa Verde offers the same menu and prices, given the tight
competition in the Metro. Despite food establishments and hangout venues
quickly popping up in QC, especially in Maginhawa and Katipunan, I have no
doubts that Casa Verde can compete in terms of quality.
When my
mother and my sister went to Cebu last month to watch me compete in the 6th Dancesport sa Sugbu (and witnessed me lose, hahaha) I treated them to a
fantastic dinner at Casa Verde afterwards. The I.T. Park branch was the nearest
one from Waterfront Hotel, so even if I found that branch a bit cramped, we
went ahead anyway.
In spite of
the server’s remark that their famous Brian’s Ribs was good enough for two, we
ordered two other dishes to share among the three of us. We got the Jon Jay’s Steak
and Pasta combo, as well as the Chicken, Mushroom, and Cheese Fajitas.
My Mom didn’t
like the mildly sweet sauce; I on the other hand found it to be one of the few “sweet”
meat dishes I like. I liked how the ribs are smothered in a thick, tangy sauce
that just demands to be savored. Good thing my mother barely touched it—that means
more portions for me, haha!
We shouldn’t
have ordered extra rice because Jon Jay’s Steak and Pasta is sure to fill up
whatever stomach space left after consuming Brian’s Ribs. The flavor of the USDA steak cutlets in brown gravy blended perfectly with the spaghetti noodles cooked in oil and garlic. I love olive-oil based pasta dishes—I ALWAYS (no exaggeration) get the Pasta al Ajillo in Mozu Café—and holy cow, this dish reminded me of it.
It’s a bit
of a challenge to eat out with my mother because she is so picky with food, so
when she expressed genuine happiness with the Chicken, Mushroom, and Cheese Fajitas, I was absolutely delighted! I totally
agree with her extreme fondness for the dish. It was an exquisite medley of
tender, grilled chicken, sautéed mushrooms, red and green peppers, creamy
cheese, and bacon! Talk about bursts of different flavors in one bite!
Casa Verde’s
fajita sour cream was so good I was eating
it as if it were ice cream. Since it was a deconstructed version, I prepared
myself only one small wrap, after which I felt as if I would burst anytime.

For dessert,
my sister recommended Lauren’s Lava Cake. I’m not too fond of sweets so we only
got one to share. This is one exciting dessert—“multi-layered”, if that
description is fit—because of the crunchy shell that encases a ball of vanilla
ice cream, on top of the chocolate lava-filled cake. I featured it in my
earlier post, 4 Desserts from Cebu Worth Traveling for, because it really is a
must-try!

But now
you won’t have to book a trip just to try this cake and Casa Verde’s other scrumptious
dishes. All you have to do is head over to QC and check out their newly-opened branch!
The store is open from 11:00am to 9:00pm, so plan a sumptuous lunch with
friends or family. I am anticipating a huge UP or Ateneo
crowd, so I’m aiming for a weekday visit. Can’t wait to try their burgers,
steaks, and milkshakes!
