Suite Spotlight: Pan Pacific Manila's Executive King Suite

Today’s millennials—myself included—are the leaders and executives of the future. Knowledge-hungry, inspired, creative, career-oriented, open-minded, the Gen Y is out there aggressively pursuing our dreams, with a refusal to let conventions dictate our paths, or stop us, or slow us down. That’s why you see younger kids confidently tackling on different tasks, diverse jobs, or entrepreneurial pursuits. We have the tools, and we know what to do and what we want to do.

In a recent trip to Manila, I had a glimpse of this future. Funny, because when I think about “progress”, I would automatically think “Makati” or “BGC”, but there’s this space nestled within the seeming standstill that is Manila that made me think about what I want for myself. My staycation at Pan Pacific Manila’s Executive King Suite made me think: this is the type of life I want: the all-important, no-nonsense life.

Situated in the busy district of Malate, Pan Pacific Manila is the #1 luxury hotel in Manila—and the first and finest butler hotel as well. Priding itself for its top-notch service and sophisticated facilities, the hotel is centrally located—with easy access to business hubs, convention centers, dining spots, and entertainment centers. Some of the hotel’s 236 rooms had been recently renovated, and I was fortunate enough to have an exclusive peek into its refurbished Executive King Suite.

Checking in was a breeze, thanks to the efficient staff of Pan Pacific. I had my secure key card in less than 10 minutes, was offered a welcome refreshment, and was assisted to my suite. The Executive King Suite sits on the 18th floor—and when I entered, I was, literally, quite motionless and speechless.

The bed is huge and incredibly comfortable, with a duvet and a pillow menu, which means that you would find something that's most comfortable to you. It is flanked by two bedside drawers, both with nearby power outlets and wall lamps. A lounge sits by the foot of the bed.

Love the frames depicting old Manila.
Day and night. Where I spent sipping my morning coffee, and snacking on fruits at night.
There’s a flat screen LCD TV in the bedroom, perfect for channel surfing as you wait for sleepiness to come. I was surprised to find my name on it when I turned it on—what a special way to welcome guests.

The workstation is in one corner, with an executive desk equipped with the things you might find essential for work: an IDD phone (complimentary local calls), an overhead lamp, drawers, stationery, and enough space to write or put your gadgets on. I did some work during my stay at Pan Pacific, and I was happy that the complimentary Wifi was very fast and reliable; I was able to use heavy applications like VPNs and Remote Desktop programs without encountering any issues.

The Wifi is free for 3 gadgets, beyond that and it's charged extra.
The mini-bar is stocked with a wide array of beverages—from water, local beers (#TeamPale!), canned juices, sodas, energy drinks, and Perrier to coffee, tea, red wine, and liquor miniatures like Absolut and Johnnie Walker.

Tea lovers will not be disappointed as Pan Pacific has supplied a variety to choose from (Twinings and Lipton); likewise, coffee junkies would definitely love to get their morning fix from the CBTL machine. There’s also a Krups coffee maker.

Imported snacks (chips, cookies, and chocolate) and local delicacies (dried mangoes) are also available—ideal for a random late-night craving.

The en suite bathroom is simply divine, with a huge bath tub fixed right in front of another LCD TV. The precious hour I spent in there was probably the most relaxed, stress-free hour of my life.

The shower area holds a rain shower which functioned perfectly—unlike some showers that take so long to adjust the water temperature. Steam generators are also installed.

Another area contains a toilet and a bidet, with a phone installed. The vanity area has two sets of Embrace toiletries—from the basic shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion to dental kits, shaving tools, sewing kits, hair dryer, etc. I especially loved the fragrant, non-greasy body lotion.

The closets are massive, with enough space for luggage too. There’s a personal digital safe, an ironing board, bedroom slippers, bathrobes, laundry bags, and shoe care products.

Outside in the living area, there are two sofas, two chairs with leather cushions, a center table with newspapers and business magazines, corner tables and floor sockets. The 32” LCD TV plays local and cable channels.

What I love most about this area is the amazing panoramic views both during daytime and nighttime. The Manila morning looks a lot more glorious from an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. At night, the cityscape looks even more magnificent with thousands of lights dotting the horizon.

The dining area can comfortably seat 8 guests on its set of high-backed chairs. Over to the left, near the door, is the kitchenette, which comes with a stove, a sink, a refrigerator, a microwave, and complete utensils.

Oh, and have I mentioned that Pan Pacific Manila offers 24-hour personalized butler service? The hotel guarantees a convenient, hassle-free, and exquisite stay with their friendly, earnest, and professional butlers. The level of service is amazing—it’s as if each one of them is always on high-alert to anticipate your needs, but without being intrusive. Indeed, I have never experienced this elsewhere.

For businessmen traveling with their kids, worry not because Pan Pacific Manila offers babysitting services. Just approach the butlers’ desk or call the front desk for any assistance required.

If you need to accommodate guests for a business meeting, Pan Pacific Manila also has meeting rooms at the Business Center you can avail of for an added charge.

The Business Center offers private meeting rooms, office equipment, and special services. More details here.
Checking in at the Executive King Suite not only entails daily complimentary breakfast for two, but also exclusive access to pre-dinner cocktails at the Pacific Lounge. Indulge in a sumptuous spread of sushi, cold cuts, cheeses, canapés, cakes, and unlimited cocktails and beer from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

Of course the hotel has a swimming pool and a gym—but honestly, upon settling in this beautiful, exquisite room, I couldn’t find the energy nor the desire to get out. What a beautiful problem to have—being unable to decide whether to lie down on comfortable sheets or going out for a dip. Now, that’s something my future self would occasionally love to be undecided over.
