Food News: Detoxify Bar Opens Flagship Branch in Westgate Alabang

Fitness junkies and health-conscious folks would be delighted to find out that Detoxify Bar, the first-ever organic juice bar in the country, has opened down South in Westgate Alabang!

Those who follow this blog might be wondering if something weird has gotten into me with my series of health-related posts, haha! Don’t worry, I’m not switching to fitness blogging! I’ve just decided that, aside from the usual restaurants, cafés, and bars, why not feature a few places that offer healthy stuff as well? After all, if you read my NutriRite post, I’m currently struggling to fit into my old dance pants at the moment so THIS IS PERFECTION.

My first time at Detoxify Bar was in Tuscany, McKinley Hill near my office and I’ve tried a few drinks plus a dish or two. In fact, in a previous post, I wrote about the benefits of juicing and wrote a thesis (LOL!) about it being a lifestyle rather than merely a “consumption”—therefore tackling its sustainability as well.

The Westgate branch has the same chic and clean feel as the Tuscany store: clean white walls, fitness quotes, and knickknacks that match the logo’s colors. However, this branch is more spacious, with dining areas in both first and second floors.

Likewise, the bar is set up such that customers can watch as the barista prepares freshly-pressed juices right in front of them. The staff would also explain which juice is perfect for you: whether it is an energy boost you need (Red Vegan Detox), a refresh for the overworked and cluttered brain (Minty Berry Detox); or a total cleanse (Green Vegan Detox).

During the Westgate branch’s grand opening, celebrities like Judy Ann Santos, Will Devaughn, Roxanne Barcelo, Eric Tai, Andy Smith, Francine Prieto, Diana Zubiri and Pepe Samson (kidding! LOL) took part in the mini-party—enjoying fresh juices and healthy food alongside vibrant, excited chatter with the staff and owners of Detoxify Bar themselves, Paul and Joy.

I sampled some new juice flavors I haven’t tried yet from Tuscany, like the Orange Vegan Detox (carrot, pear, spinach, celery, cucumber, romaine lettuce, lemon) and the Gold Detox (raw ginger ale, chia seeds) which became my instant favorite! A “dessert” detox drink is also available: the Indulgence Carob Nutmilk drink, a dairy-free, gluten-free alternative to chocolate!

A healthy dinner was also served, starting with Detoxify Bar’s delicious High-Protein Salad (PhP300 - chicken breast, greens, cottage cheese, cheddar, sour cream) followed by some Three-Cheese Panini (PhP300).

The Chicken Pomodoro Lettuce Wraps were a tastier option, with its pizza-like flavor. I loved the Rosemary Chicken and Salmon served with sun-dried tomatoes and basil pesto dip. A chicken dish, done three-ways, was also served.

With Detoxify Bar’s continuous expansion, it’s clear that more and more people are getting into the healthy lifestyle and making the smart choice to do something good for their bodies. Gone are the days when only fast food is mainstream—maybe a few years from now, majority of the establishments would become more of the type which invests on the human body, not destroy it.

To tell you the truth, I find Detoxify Bar’s juices a bit pricey but I’m strangely drawn to them. The brilliant colors and sexy packaging hypnotize me—along with the thought that these drinks would make me feel good (which, they do)—so yes, for every bottle, I say goodbye PhP220!
Despite my previous statement that detox drinks are somewhat expensive, I’ve come to a decision and I’m sticking to it: I’m doing this at least once a week—specifically, every Monday—in order for me to have a refreshed feeling at the beginning of the workweek. I like their juices’ effects on my body and hopefully you guys can try—and feel—the difference too!
