Pepe’s Guide to Organizing an 18th Birthday Party Singlehandedly (Part 2)

Last month, my cousin Angela celebrated her 18th birthday at The Lounge in Tomas Morato, QC. As the official event organizer, here was how I planned the party singlehandedly:

(continued from Part 1)

8. Performances

No party is complete without song and dance numbers, and for Angela’s debut, I could say that the guests were entertained profusely. Angela’s classmates regaled everyone with awesome singing, followed by two Latin dances from guest performer and Philippine medalist Rhea Marquez, partnered with me—no less, LOL!

Check out our Rumba dance number below:

Angela, a dancer herself, showcased her talent together with her equally-stunning sisters in a hiphop dance number, after which Angela gave a solo performance after the audience clamored for more.

9. Food

The Lounge has a big selection of food for any event you could think of. Pick a cuisine and from there choose your dishes—or just select anything you want across the board!

They allowed the debutante’s family to bring in an extra viand for a minimal corkage fee! Lola’s caldereta was, surprisingly, the star of the night.

10. Alcohol

The Lounge’s food packages include alcohol choices. For Angela’s party, her parents favored sobriety and got the 5-tower package only. Five towers of five different cocktails—your choice of poison. Needless to say, once the party ended, we were all lined up near the bar.

11. Add-on Services

If you’re having a party in The Lounge, you can choose to bring your own emcee, disc jockey, photographer, and videographer—but they do have partners who can do the job. We took a leap of faith and availed of these add-ons—the people I know have higher talent fees—so we got surprised that their resident talents were actually pretty incredible!

The emcee, Vince Uy, is an eventologist, radio host, and TV host and is affiliated with GMA 7 and TV 5.

The photographer, Melvin Sia, has worked with major national events, including the Binibining Pilipinas pageants.

The Lounge’s resident DJ, DJ Alvin, knows all the right tugsh-tugsh music to play. Everyone was bouncing off the dance floor after the program!

You would think that with all the stuff I did for this party, I was actually the debutante (LOL), but it was totally worth it after seeing everyone enjoying the night and having a blast. From the looks of everyone’s faces, it seemed like all the guests enjoyed attending Angela’s party: from the entertaining program enhanced by Vince, down to the raucous after-party. I couldn’t think of a better gift for my cousin than helping her create a party she would never forget—a party she had dreamed of.

What can I say—I’m a pretty versatile person, haha! I like photography, I like design, I like managing things, I like dancing, so I threw myself completely into this project and carried my one-man team all the way into the actual execution. I’m pretty happy with the results, enjoyed so much, and learned a lot! Who knows, maybe someone would entrust me with his wedding or whatever after reading this blog post (nyahahaha) but on the serious side, this is something I could really get into and get better at. So, until the next event I would singlehandedly take care of!
