Serendipity: Welcoming Valentine's Day at Moonshine Bar

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Moonshine Bar was full to the brim as excited singles and equally amused spectators flocked to Jupiter Street to take part in Serendipity: a speed-dating event organized by Team Eureka. The catchphrase “single and ready to mingle” certainly proved its truthfulness that night; eighteen gentlemen and eighteen ladies took chances in finding their perfect match, with Team Eureka playing Cupid.

To kick off Serendipity, Moonshine treated each love-seeker to a welcome shot. Appetizers of SPAM and Cheese Croquettes were also served.

In case you’re not familiar, here’s how speed-dating works: each lady is seated across a random guy. Whoever sits across each other must get to know one another and engage in conversation for three minutes.

After the given time limit, each guy must move on to the next girl, and then do the same. The purpose of this is, of course, to let each participant sample a slice of each of his/her 18 choices, decide whom he/she likes, and take action later at the end of the games! Each participant was given a notepad and a pen to jot down whatever detail about the other person which struck him/her the most.

All throughout these activities, an acoustic band serenaded the participants and guests lounging around with their food and drinks.

Once everyone had gotten the chance to talk to all of his/her future girlfriend/boyfriend selections, Team Eureka collected everyone’s notes—still keen on playing matchmaker!

Guess which ones are true-to-life couples?

CLUE #2: Some friendships ended after this night.
Part 2 of the event was a Cupcake-Eating Contest, participated by 3 pairs of speed-daters. The cupcakes were sponsored by One Tough Cookie, a home-based online seller and co-presenter of Serendipity. Everyone got to take home a cupcake!

Definitely there was no shortage of booze that night because each entrance ticket came with a bracelet that you could exchange for one of Moonshine’s signature cocktails. I loved these exquisite concoctions!

After the games, Team Eureka’s official disc jockey, Jayjay Jaspio, took his rightful spot on the DJ’s booth—which signaled the start of the party!

Thirty seconds before midnight, Team Eureka led a Valentine’s Day countdown and surprised everyone who stayed with shots of Absolut vodka. At exactly twelve, Moonshine welcomed V-Day with a toast!

Serendipity was certainly a night to remember. A relaxed atmosphere, lovely music, exquisite drinks, and tons of socializing with awesome new people. There was nothing like “being forced” into trying to get to know someone. It is certainly very far from the usual chase (or lack of it) inside bars—very far indeed, and a breath of fresh air, to be honest. Spending three minutes of good conversation is a lot better than trying to be cute and hot and grab someone’s attention and all—Serendipity ultimately provided a venue for that kind of pursuit for these singles, thanks to Team Eureka, One Tough Cookie, and Moonshine Bar!
