When I think of Italian dining, I often visualize rustic elements: brick walls and checkered cloths, completed by colorful plates, subdued lighting, a vine here and there, and endless pours of wine. This cuisine, as we know it, is comforting, romantic, casual, and hearty—perfect for a date or a family gathering. It is very rare to find a restaurant that showcases its other side: think of refreshing cocktails, the beach, the Amalfi coast. Brezza in Movenpick Boracay, however, seamlessly combines both facets—offering a marriage of familiar flavors and a refreshing ambiance.
The restaurant is, first and foremost, proud of its pizza—and it should be. After all, they brought a wood-fired oven all the way from Naples just to bring diners an authentic experience. Chef Francesco Leone makes delicious pies from fresh and sustainable ingredients—and he makes them fast with his trusty furnace! His current record is 41 seconds. After a few swift movements consisting of flattening dough, putting tomato sauce, and putting on toppings (ours were buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, dried herbal ham, and pistachio nuts), he placed our L'invidiosa into the oven—and voila! It was cooked before we knew it. Let’s just say that Chef Francesco means “give me a minute” literally.
I would advise ordering a pizza to share and a few rounds of cocktails, wine, or beer. After all, Brezza has an alfresco area that’s just perfect for a leisurely afternoon. Wherever you look, you can see shades of blue as the resort’s seemingly unending pool is always within sight, and the sea is just a short walk away. Make sure to catch the sunset here at Punta Bunga Cove as it can be quite a show-off. The sundown scene here is just as beautiful as that in White Beach—and there’s absolutely no crowd!
If you’re visiting for a full dinner, bring some friends so you can order a variety to share. For instance, start with the La Brezza consisting of aged parma ham, cherry tomatoes, onions, greens, and buffalo mozzarella. Or why not indulge in a simple Mozzarella Caprese served with rucola salad and homemade pesto sauce? Both are just too exquisite!
The Classic Carbonara is a must-try, cooked the traditional way with only eggs, bacon, and cheese. If you prefer tomato-based pastas, try the Spaghetti alla Bolognese with minced Angus beef and pork in tomato sauce.
Love mushrooms? Ask for the Mushroom Risotto (it’s off the menu!) and relish its beautiful earthy flavors. I loved the pizza, but this risotto was probably my favorite dish in this dinner. Loaded with meats and mushroom, the dish boasts of simple yet rich flavors that make it irresistible despite its not-so-photogenic look.
Finish off with some classic Italian desserts, like the Tiramisu and Panna Cotta. Get the former if you like rich chocolate and coffee flavors, the latter if you are inclined to something a little fruity. My personal pick is the panna cotta. Finally, get some of their signature drink, the Crema de Limoncello, as your digestif—or simply just an excuse to get buzzed. Promise, we won’t judge!
The next time you’re craving for refreshing Italian flavors and you find yourself in Boracay, skip White Beach and head over to Movenpick Resort at Punta Bunga. Make sure you come in time for sunset so you can enjoy this natural marvel in a luxurious, relaxed, and peaceful setting. Bring your friends or your better half and share a few bottles!
