Lonely No More: 3 Ideas for Awesome Weekends from S&R #loveSnR

The past weekend might have been dramatic (traumatic?) or unbearable to some, but the truth is that the absence of romance or dates during Valentine’s is not something that shouldn’t get into us. As expected, Facebook was filled with memes and bitter-sounding statuses, and I’m sure that a percentage of the people who posted them sulked at home for real while the rest of the world surprised their better halves with gifts, photographed their bouquets, and wrote long thank you notes in public. Because of this, I came up with this post to expel the notion that singles have nothing better to do than feel sorry for themselves. Hey, who says you have to be in a relationship in order to celebrate the month of love anyway?

In my recent trip to S&R in BGC, I found a couple of cool stuff which made me think about what else to do during weekends other than sit all day and curse every couple on my Facebook newsfeed. Yes, my lovey-dovey friends don’t just go out on dates on February 14—they do it almost weekly (ugh). So while they check in on a new restaurant or climb a mountain together or something, here are some ideas for us on how to spend our time other than stalking our “frenemies” online:

1 | Get a serious hobbyand be competitive!

And I mean, like, really serious. Karir dapat. Not a hobby like “watching TV” or something.

Mine is definitely writing as well as improving my photography—and in almost every spare minute, I try to do everything I can to hone these two skills. I read a lot of articles, practice a lot, stalk creatives on the web and on Instagram, tinker with my gadgets, and do free-writing (yes, until now).

While going through the shelves at S&R, I thought about the many people who are hooked on baking. It must be really therapeutic! If only I had the patience (and the equipment) I would probably go for it too, but until then, I only limit myself to making no-bake desserts, LOL.
I found out that these Ferrero Rocher packs are on sale this month and even bundled with selected wine brands like the Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet (PhP974.90, bundled with Ferrero 24’s) and the Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Cabernet Sauvignon (PhP519.90, with the heart-shaped Ferrero). Take advantage of Valentines and buy as many chocolates as possible while they’re cheaper!

What to do with excess chocolate (like you wouldn’t finish them all)? Bake a cake out of them! How about making a Ferrero Rocher cake with Nutella and hazelnuts? Check out the link to the recipe here!

If this flavor is not your thing, how about making cookies out of these goodies from S&R’s Hershey’s Assorted Cupid Mix (PhP249.90)? There’s milk chocolate, Krackel, Mr. Goodbar, and Reese’s in one pack. If you want, you can buy a whole box of Reese’s instead and whip up a Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake (recipe here).

Now what to do with the wines? Let me go to #2.

2 | Cook for the family.

It’s true that weekends are the best times to unwind, to reset the mind after a hectic workweek, or to go on a quick out-of-town trip, but sometimes, I prefer just staying in and actually spend time at home. If you love cooking, why not prepare a hearty dinner for your parents and siblings? Not only will it keep you busy in a non-stressful way, it will also give you a chance to catch up with the people you barely see and talk to because of your busy lifestyle.

I spotted this steak-and-wine bundle which sounds like a perfect plan for a fun and intimate Sunday dinner. You can dine as if you’re in a fancy restaurant without the need to dress up, and you get to enjoy quality bonding time as well.

3 | Catch up on your downloaded movies and TV series.

Whether you prefer doing this alone or with your siblings or friends, there will always be that bag of chips you keep reaching into despite being engrossed in the most intense How to Get Away with Murder or Suits scenes. My personal favorite movie/series marathon snack is anything that’s cheese- or sour cream-flavored—and of course, chocolates.

Kirkland’s Chocolates of the World (PhP799.95) is one of the best out there. One jar contains a selection of the best chocolatey bites from Belgium, France, and Switzerland (no name a few) and honestly, no matter what I pick, I can’t decide which variant I like more.

S&R also has Lindt, Almond Roca, and Cavendish & Harvey on sale this month, so if you like sweets, you better check them out. And look—such a cute Chocolate Fountain machine!

Or cuddle with this bear while bawling over your tearjerkers, bwahahaha.

There you have it! My 3 suggestions for not having a miserable time at home during weekends. Of course, these are applicable for those who choose to stay home, but if you would rather head out and get some sunshine or something, check out my travel posts for some ideas.
