L.E.S. Bagels Turns 1

I remember stumbling into L.E.S. Bagels a year ago, feeling all New York-y with my corporate wear—complete with a blazer and a tie, a cup of coffee in hand and a sandwich wrapped in a brown bag. It was easy to pretend and to do a bit of role playing in the peaceful streets of McKinley Hill: I was Harvey Specter, on the way to a lunch meeting with an archenemy, or to seal another deal somewhere. This illusion was especially feasible with L.E.S.’ interiors—an instant portal to New York. Yes, ceiling-to-floor windows and all.

Last Saturday, I was invited to the Anniversary Brunch of L.E.S. Bagels. I can’t believe this place is already one year old! Time flies so fast; I could’ve sworn I got my first Lox just a few weeks ago. Until today, L.E.S. is still the only legit bagel place in the area—forget about the other cafes, please, don’t be a hard-headed bitch. If you want bagels, there’s only L.E.S.

The brunch was attended by food bloggers and foodstagrammers—mostly, L.E.S. Bagels fans. The owner, Patrick Santos, was there as well as co-owner and chef Cuit Kaufman. Meg Fernandez regaled us with her amazing singing. Seriously, what could possibly be better than starting your morning with great bagels, delicious coffee, and a serenade from one of the country’s best singers and Soundcloud/YouTube sensations? Hell, she opened for Taylor Swift in her concert a few months back.

Different varieties of bagels were served, as well as some Bacon & Cheddar, Apple Cinnamon, Garlic & Chive, and Sundried Tomato & Basil cream cheeses. These four, plus Lox, are my favorite spreads from L.E.S. Chef Cuit’s signature pastries, like the homemade Oreos, were also on the table.

It was a totally casual and relaxed affair that was meant for nothing but enjoying a good meal. In all honestly, I was tempted to skip brunch and save my energy for dance practice in the afternoon, but if the bagels and cheeses are these good, how could I resist?

Thanks L.E.S. Bagels for inviting me! Happy birthday and more power to you!

Let’s all die and get buried under a pile of cream cheese spreads!
