Every quarter, my officemates and I go out for a
team-building activity. We attempt to plan out-of-town trips but we invariably
end up eating or drinking. In the last quarter of 2012, we decided to go to the
Vikings buffet in SM Mall of Asia. Being the gluttons that we are, we
definitely enjoyed the vast selection of food that Vikings has to offer.
I totally liked the place’s interior design because it has
that hotel feel in it. Their presentation is commendable, especially the Chinese
and Japanese sections—the latter of which uses a miniature boat to hold the
sushi. The salad section provides a varied selection: from the normal Caesar to
more adventurous Mediterranean salads. Confused with what to eat, I roamed
around the entire restaurant first before deciding which ones to get, and later
on I found myself lingering around the European and grill sections. The steaks are
served the way you like it (just instruct the chef) and you can “make your own
pasta and pizza”.

I am biased towards Italian food so I ate too much of the salmon carpaccio. I took small portions
of (almost) everything especially the hors d'oeuvres – and ditched the normal stuff like barbecue, siomai, noodles, etc. – which I guess is my way of maximizing the buffet. Their Dessert section is incredibly generous. Drink some
strong coffee after indulging on the cakes and you’re good to go.
Undeniably, Vikings is not an everyday dining choice but if you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion with your family or friends, or if you just want to treat yourself to a binge fest once in a while, this place is definitely worth a try.
