Taipei is a vibrant city filled with cultural and historical attractions, exciting dining options, and lively nightlife venues—and if you’re visiting for the first time, a centrally located hotel is ideal to maximize your sightseeing. NK Hostel, situated in Songshan District, is a cozy hostel slash boutique hotel perfect for your Taipei exploration. About 40 minutes from the airport, NK sits strategically near the train station and close to one of Taipei’s most sought-after food hub, the Raohe night market.

The hostel occupies a mixed-use building just a short walk away from the Green Line of Taipei’s metro system. From here, it’s a short bus, train, or Uber ride to famous spots like Taipei 101, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, and the Songshan Cultural Creative Park. The Songshan Station of the national railway—which runs across the whole country—is within walking distance as well.

Aside from its great location, what I found even more endearing about NK Hostel are the beautiful rooms. They have been designed with both comfort and aesthetics in mind—warm and welcoming, just like the Taiwanese people. Read on to find out more about the lovely NK Hostel.

The Rooms

NK Mixed Cube

The NK Mixed Cube (check rates here) is a shared room equipped with 13 private bunk beds, separated from each other by wooden panels and individual curtains. The warm neutral colors of the cubes make them feel larger than they really are, and it doesn’t feel “suffocating” at all. They were super cozy, in fact!

The bed is hotel-grade, ensuring a comfortable and restful sleep. Beside each bed, there’s a small table, a power socket, a USB charging port, a lamp, and air-conditioning vents.

There are personal electronic lockers, complete with fresh towels (a bath towel and a face towel), hangers, and indoor slippers. On the far end of the room, there’s a big window with a view of the city.

While there is no en suite bathroom, guests can use the shared ones (separate for men and for ladies) just outside the Mixed Cube. Each is furnished with a small vanity area and several walk-in showers, fitted with a rain shower and a handheld. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided.

Deluxe Room

Guests who are not at ease with hostel-style accommodation can book one of NK Hotel’s private rooms instead. Coming in three categories (Mini, Classic, and Deluxe), each private room features an en suite bathroom, a 42-inch LCD TV, and a view of either Keelung River or the Taipei 101 tower.

The Deluxe Room (check rates), the largest room type and the top category, features a Queen size bed, a mini-kitchen, and a private veranda. At 30 sqm., the room is spacious and can even accommodate an extra bed set up.

I absolutely love the interior design—every detail, from the contrasting elements to the colors to the prints, is well thought of and evokes a cozy feeling. It’s also hard to decide which view is better, as both look amazing through the room’s expansive windows, but I think I am more inclined towards the river view.

The en suite bathroom features a bathtub, a separate shower area, and complete toiletries.

The Common Area

Right past the reception is the common area which features a 55-inch LCD TV, lots of seating spaces, a reading nook where guests can borrow books, magazines, and travel resources, a dining area, and a fully-equipped kitchen.

The reception actually doubles as a bar, which offers refreshments (coffee, beer, etc.) for an extra charge. It’s a great spot to unwind in while chatting with fellow travelers, or while seeking tips from the hostel’s friendly staff.

I love the kitchen and dining area, where the hostel offers complimentary tea and coffee. Guests can use the equipment to cook their own meals—but as a reminder, guests must clean up after themselves. In the morning, this area is also where the breakfast buffet is set up. A lovely terrace sits nearby, offering a city view and a cozy spot for morning coffee or a sundown beer.

NK Hostel also has toilet rooms separated from the shower rooms, just off the main common area.

Other Amenities

On the 8th level, the hostel has a self-service Laundry Room, perfect for long-staying guests.

NK Hostel also has a roof deck from which guests can admire the view of Taipei. In some occasions, the hostel stages events in this area, such as the New Year's Eve countdown parties.
