East Meets West at Tokyo Cafe

My appetite isn’t choosy when it comes to the time of day. I can eat a lunch-like merienda even if I just ate lunch an hour or two ago, so oftentimes, I find myself in Tokyo CafĂ© for a full feast during office snack time. Serving a varied selection of Japanese favorites and Western dishes, Tokyo CafĂ© in McKinley Hill is at the heart of the Venice Piazza, presenting itself to hungry diners from nearby workplaces.

The cool, elegant space occupied by Tokyo CafĂ© is tucked on the corner of Piazza adjacent to Amici and across Old Vine. Visible from all the entry points of Piazza, it is surely hard to miss. Seeing the seductive display of the best items from their menu from the glass wall, one would have a hard time saying no to trying it out. Tokyo CafĂ© serves everything from soups and salads, pasta dishes, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and rice meals, to a huge assortment of desserts and beverages. Some of the food choices are a fusion of Japanese and Western Cuisine, like the Japanese Carbonara.

It may be wise to go with a big group of friends so you can sample more dishes. Order some pasta and a pizza to share—I recommend the Garlic and Shrimp Pasta for lovers of spicy food and the simple but tasty Margherita Pizza (tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, thin crust), which I have been unable to photograph in the many times I've eaten here for it always vanished quickly. Try the Tokyo Boneless Chicken, which is deliciously infused with herbs and comes with their special gravy. You can’t go wrong with their crispy Fried Chicken as well, which can be availed in three, five, or seven pieces with a side of French fries. Treat yourself to your favorite Japanese fare like the Pork Shogayaki and the Wafu steak. Save some room for dessert and indulge on some of their parfait and crepe selections.

It’s very rare for a cafĂ©-type restaurant to have quality food, although admittedly Tokyo CafĂ© borders a little onto the pricey side. In spite of the price range though (P200-P300/meal), diners are sure to get satisfaction from their delicious and innovative dishes. They have branches in SM malls like Mall of Asia, Megamall, The Block, and Southmall as well, so plan your visit on one of these days. A must-try for all enthusiasts of cafĂ© food out there!
